£0.00

Country: US/CHI
Technical: DeLuxe/Panavision 125m
Director: John Curran
Cast: Naomi Watts, Edward Norton, Liev Schreiber, Toby Jones, Diana Rigg

Synopsis:

In the twenties an upper middle class girl escapes the torpor of her home life by marrying a dour bacteriologist and going to live in China. She begins, however, to regret her decision when he uses her infidelity as a lever to take her off to a cholera-infested town in the interior, where he has volunteered to replace the only doctor.

Review:

A stunningly composed, subtly plotted screenplay, whose characters never cease to pleasantly surprise. As a consequence it is a very life-affirming work, fully deserving of the effort its stars evidently put into making it.
