Preparations to be Together for an Unknown Period of Time (2020)

£0.00

(Felkészülés meghatározatlan ideig tartó együttlétre)

Country: HUN
Technical: col 95m
Director: Lili Horvát
Cast: Natasa Stork, Viktor Bodó, Benett Vilmányi

Synopsis:

A Hungarian neurosurgeon gives up her job in the States and returns to Budapest in order to be with a colleague she has met at a colloquium. Her impetuosity is met by a slap in the face when he fails to show up at the rendezvous and affects not to know her.

Review:

A demonstration of how events can be interpreted differently by their participants finds its echo in the doctor's professional efficiency in guarding against memory loss in her patients. The explanation for what seems an almost Hitchcockian game of cat and mouse is flimsy when it comes. In the meantime we have endured reels of pregnant silences and meaningful gazes; a relationship with a young med student comes and goes nowhere. Nicely shot in shifting focus, and Stork impresses as the disoriented lover ready to give her tormentor another chance. The final shot, of a speaker suspended from a winch beam, is suitably non-committal, but her costume (sweater, with hair tied up for the first time) suggests a new beginning (for an unknown period?)
