Poulet au vinaigre (1985)
(Cop au Vin)
Country: FR
Technical: col/scope 110m
Director: Claude Chabrol
Cast: Jean Poiret, Stéphane Audran, Michel Bouquet, Pauline Lafont
Synopsis:
Inspector Lavardin is sent to investigate a curious spate of killings in a small Normandy town.
Review:
Like a Gallic Agatha Christie tale, this comeback film in fact merely reworks the usual elements of a Chabrol film (caustic dialogue, small-town setting, murder) with more concentration on the sleuthing aspects. Good solid stuff, but a bit glum and with less passion than before. Its success gave rise to a sequel, Inspecteur Lavardin.
