Potiche (2010)

£0.00

Country: FR
Technical: col 103m
Director: François Ozon
Cast: Catherine Deneuve, Gérard Depardieu, Fabrice Luchini, Karin Viard, Jérémie Renier, Judith Godrèche

Synopsis:

1977: the MD of a Lyons umbrella factory treats his employees like cattle and cheats on his trophy wife and heiress of the company. However, when he is held hostage at the factory and subsequently suffers an attack, it is she who steers the firm safely back to port, with a little help from the socialist mayor and MP with whom she once had a fling.

Review:

Ozon takes a popular stage hit and overlays it with his own brand of high camp and musical comedy trappings, most of which work well enough. The film is a reminder of what a resourceful actress Deneuve is, and Luchini is superb as the male chauvinist pig of a husband, with Viard offering excellent support in the abused secretary role.
