Popeye the Sailor Meets Sindbad the Sailor (1936)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 16m
Director: Dave Fleischer, Willard Bowsky
Cast: Animated

Synopsis:

Popeye fortuitously sails past Sindbad's island, and Olive Oyl is kidnapped.

Review:

The most striking part of this celebrated Paramount short is that Sindbad becomes a villain ruling his own private island of subjugated beasts and monsters. Sign of the fascist times? Otherwise it is the customary 'anything goes' surreal fare, in which animation is the vehicle for the performance of impossible feats, as when Popeye, carried off by a roc to a distant volcanic island, uses the latter to roast the bird and bring it back on a platter!
