Poltergeist (1982)

Country: US
Technical: col/scope 114m
Director: Tobe Hooper
Cast: Jobeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson, Beatrice Straight

Synopsis:

A nuclear family moves into a newly built estate and their young daughter initially begins noticing paranormal phenomena. They call in some parapyschologists and it transpires that the house was built on top of a cemetery, and the dark one has come to reclaim his own.

Review:

Absurdly over-the-top horror along Exorcist lines, which Spielberg producing endowed with some state-of-the-art presentation techniques and props left over from Raiders of the Lost Ark. Hooper's own contribution is reduced to journeyman status, though there are one or two examples of his gallows humour. Generally, though, an excellent ride for your money.
