Country: US
Technical: DeLuxe/bw 124m
Director: Gary Ross
Cast: Tobey Maguire, Jeff Daniels, Joan Allen, William H. Macy, J.T. Walsh, Reese Witherspoon

Synopsis:

A teenage brother and sister inadvertently get sucked into the town of a classic Fifties soap, where there is no sex and no danger and everything is just...pleasant. Inevitably they pollute the innocence of this insular world, with comic and dramatic consequences.

Review:

Gentle hymn to non-conformism which uses the artful device of equating the gift of colour with the knowledge of good and evil. Unfortunately there are inconsistencies in the working out of this particular conceit, and the confusion of McCarthyism with ante-diluvian Man's fall from grace is not altogether convincing. Nevertheless, this was as entertaining and intelligent as Hollywood movies hadn't been for a long time; a pity it was overshadowed by The Truman Show.
