Phantom of the Paradise (1974)
Country: US
Technical: col 91m
Director: Brian de Palma
Cast: Paul Williams, William Finley, Jessica Harper
Synopsis:
An ace rock composer is discovered and undone by a star performer who proceeds to steal his work, but he comes back for vengeance.
Review:
Excellent early De Palma, at his fastest and most inventive. It's still derivative, sure, as much of Faust as of its title source, but it's funny, well-acted and accomplished in its musical performances. In its energy and intoxication it says a lot about Hollywood in the early seventies.
