Persuasion (2007)

£0.00

Country: GB/US
Technical: col 93m
Director: Adrian Shergold
Cast: Sally Hawkins, Rupert Penry-Jones, Alice Krige

Synopsis:

In view of straitened financial circumstances, the Elliots must decamp to Bath and let the house to tenants. Meanwhile, 27 year-old Anne suffers the shame of rubbing shoulders socially with a man she turned down years previously, but whom she still loves.

Review:

Austen's later, weightier novel is a popular one for film adaptation, and this TV version comes barely a decade after Roger Michell's hard to beat one for the BBC. The central couple are, as often, nicely caught, and Miss Hawkins in particular is very fine, but there are some irritatingly modern tics among the rest of the cast, notably Anne's sisters.
