(Gates of the Night)

Country: FR
Technical: bw 106m
Director: Marcel Carné
Cast: Pierre Brasseur, Yves Montand, Serge Reggiani

Synopsis:

In the winter following the liberation of Paris, a tramp foretells a young man's love for a beautiful girl.

Review:

Carné followed his masterpiece, les Enfants du Paradis, with this vaguely unsatisfactory allegory of France's rebirth. There are a number of characters, some of whom have symbolic names like 'The Tramp', and the script does not pull all the strands together as well as it might.
