Il Postino (1994)
(The Postman)
Country: IT/FR/BEL
Technical: col 100m
Director: Michael Radford
Cast: Massimo Troisi, Philippe Noiret, Maria Grazia Cucinotta
Synopsis:
On an Italian island the shy postman delivering mail for exiled poet Pablo Neruda takes tips on wooing his inamorata, a buxom waitress and the belle of the harbour community.
Review:
A charming ex-pat effort from Radford, trading easily on the charisma of its leading actor but contriving, through its political sensitivity and low-key comedy, not to be a pseudo-Tornatore picture. More poignantly, Troisi died during filming and the final scenes had to be fudged without him.
