The Outfit (2022)
Country: US/GB
Technical: col/2.00:1 105m
Director: Graham Moore
Cast: Mark Rylance, Zoey Deutch, Johnny Flynn, Dylan O'Brien, Simon Russell Beale
Synopsis:
A Chicago tailor, or 'cutter' as he prefers, runs his establishment according to Saville Row precepts, but one night becomes embroiled in the perilous machinations of the hoods who use it for a drop-off.
Review:
This clever thriller is tailor-made for Rylance's queer bird persona, and its Chinese box-like scenario is matched by the set design, although more could have been made of this, perhaps. Tricksy editing presumably attempts to ameliorate the staginess, but this is an actor's piece with a witty script that only occasionally strains suspension of disbelief.
