Streep got to show off another flawless accent and Redford got to be dashing, laconic and doomed again. Apart from the immaculate technical trappings (stunning location footage, John Barry's romantic score, impeccable period recreation) this is a beautiful ornament of a movie, too calculated and portentous (Hatton yet again silhouetted against a sunset) to yield much authentic response.
