Orphan (2016)

(Orpheline)

Country: FR
Technical: col/2.35:1 111m
Director: Arnaud des Pallières
Cast: Adèle Haenel, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Solène Rigot, Jalil Lespert, Gemma Arterton, Sergi López, Robert Hunger-Bühler

Synopsis:

Four young women come under the film-maker's scrutiny at critical moments in their lives, all having to do with parenting in some form.

Review:

A jigsaw puzzle without a solution, this French Magnolia is confoundedly vague on important narrative detail at times, and inconsistent in conception (not all the characters are orphans, and not all the stories interconnect). However, the actors are sufficiently engaging, and the film-making absorbing enough, to make the journey worthwhile.
