The further career of Mick Travis, main character of ...If, this second in a loose trilogy of films lays bare on the operating table all the things Anderson considers to be wrong with the UK, with Alan Price providing musical commentary. It's a who's-who of contemporary acting talent, particularly in the domain of comedy, but the film assays all manner of registers, from the droll to the horrific. Long, self-reflexive, a tad indulgent, but shot through with brilliance. (Britannia Hospital completed the sequence, less successfully, in 1982.)
