Old Gringo (1989)
Country: US
Technical: col 120m
Director: Luis Puenzo
Cast: Jane Fonda, Gregory Peck, Jimmy Smits
Synopsis:
At the time of the Pancho Villa revolution an American 35 year-old spinster goes to Mexico to be governess to a federal general's children, and becomes involved with his bastard son, now one of Villa's confederates, and an expatriate American writer, Ambrose Bierce.
Review:
Mainly notable for a towering performance from the formerly retired Peck, and admirable for the energy Fonda invested in its making (even showing off her newly augmented breasts), this filming of a novel by Carlos Fuentes seems to be struggling to say something about how to live (and die) but comes across as a confused historical epic, confused about whether to be 100 Rifles or Burn!
