Oh! What a Lovely War (1969)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: col/scope 144m
Director: Richard Attenborough
Cast: Corin Redgrave, Ralph Richardson, Meriel Forbes, John Gielgud, Kenneth More

Synopsis:

A performance for the troops on the Brighton Pier turns into a fantasia of life in the trenches during World War One, as three sons from a working class family join up to go and fight.

Review:

Undeniably thoughtful opening-out of a highly successful musical revue for the stage. The marriage of artifice and atrocity is perhaps unpalatable, but there lies the righteous anger of the piece, although inevitably what was a nod and a wink on stage now calls forth somewhat heavier cinematic guns.
