Country: US
Technical: Technicolor/Panavision 150m
Director: Terrence Malick
Cast: Colin Farrell, Christopher Plummer, Christian Bale, Wes Studi, David Thewlis, Q'Orianka Kilcher

Synopsis:

In the early 1600s an English colony establishes a precarious foothold in Virginia. Starving and divided, they have one officer who makes contact with the natives, and survives thanks to the compassion of princess Pocahontas. Compassion turns to love but it is doomed to be unhappy.

Review:

Malick further develops hsi free-flowing, open-ended approach to narrative and a preoccupation with the theme of Paradise Lost is now clear in his work. It is an approach that is perhaps ill-suited to such an epic story with several historical components. However, the use of classical music and fine natural photography combine to produce some poignant passages of forest and river life on which the central love story appears to depend.
