Nostalgia (2022)

£0.00

Country: IT/FR
Technical: col/2.35 117m
Director: Mario Martone
Cast: Pierfrancesco Favino, Francesco Di Leva, Tommaso Ragno

Synopsis:

Forty years on, a successful entrepreneur returns from Egypt to his home town of Naples to attend to his ageing mother, and stays on smitten with Nostalgia for the tearaway years of his youth. However, his childhood friend has become a kingpin of organised crime, and is much less pleased to see him.

Review:

Martone's film is heavy on atmosphere, and Naples comes across as a vibrant, multi-faceted city, while Pierfrancesco's performance is a shoo-in after his work on The Traitor. The film is far less strong on narrative, and could have done with a little trimming; meanwhile, details such as the mother's death and the wife left behind are all but ignored. Attention is assured whenever Di Leva and Ragno are on the screen.
