North to Alaska (1960)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/scope 122m
Director: Henry Hathaway
Cast: John Wayne, Stewart Granger, Fabian, Capucine

Synopsis:

A pair of gold prospectors have woman trouble.

Review:

Handsomely mounted with smart location work, this is an old-fashioned star vehicle with the emphasis on comedy over action. Capucine is glamorous enough and the leads work reasonably well together (though Granger does not exactly strike sparks) and the Duke does his standard Rio Bravo act of the burly old timer above lovey-dovey antics until he is forced to admit to himself and everyone he is smitten. Set pieces include a race to climb lofty tree trunks and a punch-up through the muddy streets of the town (shades of McLintock to come), punctuated by unexplained cartoonish sound effects and animal asides.
