Synopsis:
A widowed mortuary assistant with seven children finds it impossible to make ends meet without the support of his Lady Bracknell-esque aunt, and finds it equally impossible to keep a nanny, so ungovernable is his brood. Receiving an ultimatum that he must marry within the month, or else the children will have to go into care, he prepares to resort to desperate measures; meanwhile a supernatural nanny arrives on his doorstep who is the answer to all his childcare worries.
Review:
It is never explained quite how marrying will remedy the situation, nor is there any suggestion that he trade in his substantial house, park, cook and staff for an abode more within his means; but never mind, this is an agreeable concoction, much enjoyed by the kids, into which Thompson has thrown various motifs (those from The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins, to name but two) and a number of food and fart gags. She has also set it back at least a hundred years, which seems rather superfluous given the modernity of the children. Someone has also gone quite mad with the art direction.
