Naked Lunch (1991)
Country: CAN/GB
Technical: col 115m
Director: David Cronenberg
Cast: Peter Weller, Judy Davis, Ian Holm, Julian Sands
Synopsis:
A pest controller becomes addicted to the chemical he uses in his work, accidentally shoots his wife while hallucinating and runs away to find himself working undercover for bugs in a North African port.
Review:
A Cronenbergian amalgam of William Burroughs' original novel and other biographical elements. It makes no kind of sense, of course, but stands as a cinematic analogy to the author's own suspect working methods, which involved substance abuse. Intriguing but, like most trips, more fun if you are having it than watching it.
