Les nuits fauves (1992)

(Savage Nights)

Country: FR
Technical: col 126m
Director: Cyril Collard
Cast: Cyril Collard, Romane Bohringer

Synopsis:

A bisexual musician discovers he is HIV positive but continues for a time to engage in sexual relations. He confesses to his 'girlfriend' but she doesn't want to give him up.

Review:

This is not really as lurid as it sounds since it is really about how living with the illness alters the hero's perception of life and love. His initial retreat from the latter through guilt and fear almost destroys the girl, but ultimately he comes to view himself as part of creation rather than a life about to end. The film is autobiographical: the director/author died soon after of AIDS.
