And a nymphomaniac at that. Tchaikovsky was of course a homosexual who thought that he could somehow convince his body (or society) that such was not the case. Now, factor in that this is Ken Russell, for whom 'understated' means 'English' and therefore a detestable attribute, and you have some idea of the lurid representations here. If you are interested in seeing what went through the director's head when he listened to the 1812 overture, say, or what it might have been like in a railway carriage on the Tchaikovskys' honeymoon, then there are moments where all this delirium is worth a look. The final scenes at the lunatic asylum are too much, however, definitely warming up for The Devils!
