The Man Upstairs (1958)
Country: GB
Technical: bw 88m
Director: Don Chaffey
Cast: Richard Attenborough, Bernard Lee, Donald Houston, Dorothy Alison
Synopsis:
A mentally disturbed man keeps his fellow boarders up all night. Some of them try to offer help but are rebuffed, and eventually the police and a social worker are called in, whereupon it becomes apparent he is armed.
Review:
Intriguing film, which certainly did much to raise awareness of mental health problems. It is a barnstorming performance from Attenborough, of course, to which all contribute solid support. It is also something of a steal from Marcel Carné's Le jour se lève!
