The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934)
Country: GB
Technical: bw 84m
Director: Alfred Hitchcock
Cast: Leslie Banks, Edna Best, Peter Lorre
Synopsis:
A British couple on holiday in St Moritz is unwillingly drawn into a conspiracy to assassinate a European diplomat in London, when their friend is killed and their daughter kidnapped.
Review:
Classic British Hitchcock thriller, with evidence of a gradual shift in emphasis towards comedy in the banter between friends and the outlandish situation of jeopardy at a dentist's. Execution is undeniably creaky by today's standards but the pace is brisk and the action scenes are handled with vigour and imagination. Undoubtedly preferable to the re-make.
