Mud (2012)
Country: US
Technical: col/2.35:1 130m
Director: Jeff Nichols
Cast: Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Tye Sheridan, Jacob Lofland, Sam Shepard
Synopsis:
Two boys living on the banks of the Arkansas river discover a boat stranded in a tree top and its occupant, a fugitive who is waiting to run away with his lifelong love. Agreeing to help him, they set in chain a journey of discovery as to the complexities of adult relationships that shadows their own personal family dramas.
Review:
Great film about growing up that recalls Stand by Me and To Kill a Mockingbird before it, with outstanding performances from the boys and excellent support. Taking its time to capture the pace of life on the river, the piece sketches in a mode of life that is incidentally under threat by modern forces in the same way that the film's hero, Mud, is hunted by a rotten family of big businessmen.
