Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris (2022)
Country: GB/CAN/FR/HUN/BEL
Technical: col/2.39:1 115m
Director: Anthony Fabian
Cast: Lesley Manville, Isabelle Huppert, Lambert Wilson, Alba Baptista, Jason Isaacs
Synopsis:
1950s London: a happy-go-lucky war widow ekes out a living cleaning others' houses, while occasionally having a flutter on the pools with her friend, Violet. When she finds a Dior dress in the wardrobe of one of her so-called debtors, she decides it is time for herself to make a play for her own dream.
Review:
A feel good entertainment which captured audiences' hearts for its portrayal of post-war austerity and easy charm. The wonderful Lesley Manville's Parisian adventures beggar belief at times in the number of happy chances that befall her, not unlike the manner in which she acquires the funds to go there in the first place, but that is part of the Capra-esque conception behind it all: it is a film that asks us to have a little faith in human nature, and rejoice in the people like Ada Harris that bring out the best in us. Clearly, we all need a bit of that in the 2020s.
