Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 94m
Director: Wes Anderson
Cast: Jared Gilman, Kara Hayward, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Bob Balaban

Synopsis:

During the 1960s, on an island off the New England coast, a scout camp is disrupted by the absconding of an orphaned misfit determined to run away with his enamorata, an unhappy daughter of a pair of lawyers, one of whom is having an affair with the police chief tasked with the job of apprehending the fugitives.

Review:

Playing rather like a live-action Fantastic Mr Fox, the picture has much to recommend it to Anderson devotees: quirkily detailed mise-en-scène, a love of minutiae of all kinds (technical, cultural, behavioural), and outbursts of cartoon-like action. Delightful though the young leads are, however, one is not left with much more than the comforting message that love can come to even the strangest of society's damaged souls.
