McLintock! (1963)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/scope 127m
Director: Andrew V. McLaglen
Cast: John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, Yvonne de Carlo, Patrick Wayne, Stefanie Powers

Synopsis:

Cattle baron G.W. McLintock has his work cut out keeping land grabbers, government agencies, Indians and ranchers in their place, without being given a headache by his stubborn daughter and estranged wife who have both returned from back east.

Review:

A kind of western Taming of the Shrew, infamous for the prolonged mud fight at its climax. It was the first picture McLaglen made after his return from a spell working in TV, and his allegiance to the Wayne dynasty was a close one: he got his start making 'B' westerns for Batjac Productions. Just to establish that the Duke is pretty much lionized here, as he would be in every successive McLaglen picture, added to which the supporting cast are not coaxed into their best performances, and the whole thing outstays its welcome. Decent enough Sunday afternoon fare.
