Maurice (1987)
Country: GB
Technical: col 140m
Director: James Ivory
Cast: James Wilby, Hugh Grant, Rupert Graves, Denholm Elliott
Synopsis:
Upper class friends flirt with homosexuality, then fall on either side of the gender divide, the homosexual coming to no good over a young gamekeeper.
Review:
The customary virtues of a Merchant-Ivory film - gleaming production values, fun-filled supporting roles and a general literateness - are here compromised by overlength and a self-conscious awkwardness the original novel appears to have brought with it. Wilby is good, though.
