Hugely successful family picture, with great songs and pioneering use of mixed live action and animation sequences. The thought was at the time that it was consolation for Andrews not getting the lead in the film of My Fair Lady, a role she had made her own, but she had the last laugh since she won the Oscar. Pretty soon everyone in Hollywood was planning a musical.
