Marco the Magnificent (1965)
(La fabuleuse aventure de Marco Polo)
Country: FR/IT/YUG/EGY/AFG
Technical: Eastmancolor/scope 112m
Director: Denys de la Patellière, Noel Howard
Cast: Horst Buchholz, Grégoire Aslan, Robert Hossein, Elsa Martinelli, Anthony Quinn, Orson Welles, Akim Tamiroff
Synopsis:
A Genoese merchant returns with his father and uncle to China via the perilous overland route, and finds the great Khan facing a Mongol revolt led by his own son.
Review:
Doubtless competing for release with Genghis Khan the same year, this European (and Afghan!) co-production also uses Yugoslav locations (one wonders that they were not falling over each other). It has considerably less chutzpah, and the multinational cast leads to unsatisfactory dubbing.
