Machete (2010)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 105m
Director: Robert Rodriguez, Ethan Maniquis
Cast: Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Robert De Nire, Jessica Alba, Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson, Cheech Marin, Steven Seagal

Synopsis:

A Mexican federal cop falls foul of a colleague turned drug dealer, and years later finds himself an illegal alien in a Californian border town where equally corrupt public servants are about to stitch up the cross-border traffic in their favour.

Review:

Opened out - and far too much so - drive-in fodder, based on a character introduced on one of the trailers in the Tarantino/Rodriguez Grindhouse venture. The beauty of such pulpy material is that, as producer, one does not have to spend much time worrying about credibility or quality of dialogue, just provide some gross-out gore effects and pleasurable cheesecake while offering employment to movie has-beens dangerously close to their use-by date, safe in the knowledge one did not intend to be taken seriously anyway. The irony is that the film's most interesting aspect is its exposé of Trump politics 'avant la lettre'!
