La madre muerta (1993)
Country: SP
Technical: col 111m
Director: Juanma Bajo Ulloa
Cast: Karra Elejalde, Lio, Ana Alvarez
Synopsis:
A thief kills a painting restorer during a burglary and maims her daughter, whose development is arrested. Later he kidnaps her from the institution where she is kept, for fear of her identifying him, but instead of his killing her, a new relationship develops.
Review:
Ulloa's cinema does not ingratiate itself with the viewer, with few concessions to conventional narrative techniques, and the scenario here all but guarantees uncomfortable viewing. Given those two things, this is a hard slog, but aficionados of the way he builds a scene, of fine cinematography and acting, will find much to admire here.
