A Man Called Sledge (1970)

£0.00

Country: IT/US
Technical: col/2.35:1 93m
Director: Vic Morrow
Cast: James Garner, Dennis Weaver, Claude Akins, John Marley, Laura Antonelli

Synopsis:

An outlaw teams up with an old man who has knowledge of how a gold shipment is kept inside a maximum security prison. Together with the outlaw's loyal gang they devise a plan whereby they will snatch the gold on the inside.

Review:

This De Laurentiis production is a desultory effort about the corrupting power of gold. It miscasts Garner as antihero and its ill-conceived scenario makes the mistake of conflating the modish amorality of the Leone westerns (when the state of the world is corrupt, the good man is an outlaw) and the traditional charming villain/flawed lawman stand-off. Smart location footage is spoilt by confusing action and a contrived 'honour among thieves' final act.
