The Lodger (1944)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 84m
Director: John Brahm
Cast: Laird Cregar, Merle Oberon, George Sanders, Cedric Hardwicke, Sara Allgood

Synopsis:

In the midst of the Ripper killings, a London couple takes on a lodger and the wife comes to suspect him of being the man himself.

Review:

No amount of swirling fog can match the atmospherics of Hitchcock's silent classic, despite Miss Allgood's presence, and Brahm's version for Fox gets bogged down in excessive talk. Nevertheless, Cregar is an imposing presence in the title role (he would die the same year, from crash dieting, at the age of 28.)
