The Last Temptation of Christ (1988)

£0.00

Country: US/CAN
Technical: col 163m
Director: Martin Scorsese
Cast: Willem Dafoe, Harvey Keitel, Barbara Hershey

Synopsis:

Close to the hour of his crucifixion, Christ is tempted by the prospect of a temporal union with Mary Magdalene.

Review:

Scorsese's circumspect filming of a controversial novel is successful in rendering an identifiably human version of the gospel, the last half-hour being quite moving. Sadly, the tendency to modernise all the poetry of the original does sometimes make for ponderousness, for example in the Sermon on the Mount (but then, after Life of Brian, what choice did he have?)
