The Last of the Mohicans (1992)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/scope 122m
Director: Michael Mann
Cast: Daniel Day-Lewis, Madeleine Stowe, Jodhi May, Wes Studi

Synopsis:

1757: during the American war between the British and French an adopted Huron Indian living among the Mohawks leads British soldiers to their deaths in order to avenge himself on a past hurt.

Review:

The oft-sanitized tale of frontier treachery is here given in all its savagery and with a modern concern for authenticity in locations, ethnicity and environmentalism. Mann lets the thrilling ingredients speak for themselves and delivers few of his lyrical punctuation marks, though he does ring the changes with a musically backed and gracefully choreographed climactic pursuit on a mountain pass. The cast is exemplary, Lewis being as committed as one could wish by living the life of the wilderness for a time to 'prepare', and no leading lady ever looked so proud and stunning as Madeleine Stowe here. Viewed in the cinema the film seemed even more violent, due to the bone-crunching ambient sound effects.
