Loving Vincent (2017)

£0.00

Country: POL/GB/US/SW/NL
Technical: col/bw/1.33:1 94m
Director: Dorota Kobiela, Hugh Welchman
Cast: Douglas Booth, Chris O'Dowd, Aidan Turner, Saoirse Ronan

Synopsis:

A postmaster despatches his son to deliver a letter from the deceased painter to his brother, Theo. When it turns out that he, too, has perished, the determined young man resolves to track down those who last had contact with the addressee, including his doctor and an innkeeper.

Review:

Animated from hundreds of cells painted in the manner of Van Gogh, this is a labour of love all right. Whether the acting and writing quite match up to the ambition of the undertaking is a moot point, but the film is not without its pathos, which seems to encompass not just the dead painter but all the characters to one extent or another.
