Lost Horizon (1973)
Country: US
Technical: Metrocolor/2.35:1(70mm) 143m
Director: Charles Jarrott
Cast: Peter Finch, Liv Ullmann, Sally Kellerman, Bobby Van
Synopsis:
Westerners escape turmoil in China, only to crashland in the Himalayas, where they happen upon the lost valley of Shangri-la, a place where people live in harmony with the world.
Review:
A Ross Hunter musical production of a 1930s piece of utopianism: it would hard to imagine a project less suitable for Hollywood in the early seventies, a time already half a decade removed from several musical misfires. The results are earnest but dull, the pauses for song feeling exactly that.
