Lizard in a Woman's Skin (1971)

£0.00

(Schizoid/Una lucertola con la pelle di donna)

Country: IT/SP/FR
Technical: Technicolor 103m
Director: Lucio Fulci
Cast: Florinda Bolkan, Stanley Baker, Jean Sorel, Silvia Monti, Leo Genn, Anita Strindberg

Synopsis:

The wife of a well-connected lawyer in London becomes fascinated by the personage of a free-loving neighbour with a penchant for druggie parties. When the woman turns up dead she is terrified she is the party responsible, having dreamt the crime down to the smallest detail.

Review:

Argento-style psycho thriller with swinging London trimmings, and more red herrings than an Aberdeen fishmonger's. The final twist, which could be nothing more than the fanciful imaginings of Baker's troubled police detective, is no less convincing than any other of the motiveless explanations for the killings, but the storytelling is so pacy, the camerawork so bracingly imaginative, and the Technicolor so gorgeous that one can savour the style, if not the substance. *The title comes from a character's LSD-induced description of the heroine. **The film makes plentiful use of London locations, though not, for the most part in an obvious way. The most effective are the scenes of the heroine's imperilment at Alexandra Palace.
