Fair Western, and above-average Winner film, with a capable cast and a good feel for landscape - too frequently traversed by zooms, mind you. The title character's by-the-book approach is betrayed in one apparently motiveless killing (of the fleeing Hurd Price), which may be thoughtfully 1970s or just sloppy writing, depending on one's generosity of feeling towards the makers.
