£0.00

Country: US
Technical: FotoKem 103m
Director: Lisa Cholodenko
Cast: Frances McDormand, Christian Bale, Kate Beckinsale, Natascha McElhone, Alessandro Nivola

Synopsis:

A newly qualified clinical psychiatrist and his highly gifted wife move to California to stay in his mother's house, only to find that she is there with her singer boyfriend producing a record in the basement studio, and they must adapt to their new surroundings and her strong character's influence.

Review:

Aside from being a gift to actress Frances McDormand, one can't really see what point there is to what amounts to a relationship-under-strain drama, except possibly as a nostalgia trip for beatniks. The leads do their level best with their under-written parts, but many scenes almost collapse under the weight of their inconsequentiality.
