£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/scope 105m
Director: Howard Hawks
Cast: Jack Hawkins, Joan Collins, James Robertson Justice, Dewey Martin, James Hayter, Alex Minotis

Synopsis:

A Pharoah with an obsessive need to collect fine things determines to build a great pyramid housing an inviolable tomb so that he can be confident of enjoying them in the afterlife.

Review:

A handsomely mounted Cinemascope production, this is a footnote on its director's career nonetheless: the generic conventions afford no opportunity for signature elements (mannish heroines, buddy relationships in professional sparring situations, sing-songs) and the plotting is by the numbers silent cinema stuff, with Collins coming on board as a wily little vamp from Cyprus who would make Messalina blush. The British cast provides refreshing relief from the American accents the bedevil the historical epic of the period, and the design elements surrounding the tomb are fascinating.
