Lady Bird (2017)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 94m
Director: Greta Gerwig
Cast: Saoirse Ronan, Laurie Metcalf, Tracy Letts, Lucas Hedges

Synopsis:

Christine, aka Lady Bird, fights to define herself through Catholic school in Sacramento, moving from having a fat friend and a closet gay boyfriend to being the plaything of the coolest, all the while fighting against her demanding mother, who only wants the best for her but cannot help reminding her how much she owes them and how much everything costs.

Review:

We have been here before, but Gerwig imbues her nerdy characters with such charm, even the losers are endearing. Ronan does a fabulous job of appearing much younger, while making herself unappealingly childish at times, but always forgivable; and Metcalf, back on the big screen after years of television work, is terrific. Okay, the sudden maturity in the last reel may be unprepared, but isn't that true of adolescents?
