Lady and the Tramp (1955)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/scope 76m
Director: Hamilton Luske, Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson
Cast: animated

Synopsis:

A pedigree spaniel finds herself removed from her comfortable middle class home and in the company of a disreputable mongrel, whose owners may once have replaced him, as hers might, with a mewling infant.

Review:

Disney's first Cinemascope animation is a nostalgia bath for pooch lovers, of the Meet Me in St Louis variety, looking back to a time when everyone knew their place, dogs included. At the same time, since this is the US of A, a fella from the wrong side of the tracks can still marry a girl with breeding if he shows the requisite moral courage. The drawing is of the old-school, deftly shaded variety, and there are some memorable characterizations and numbers, notably Peggy Lee's turn as a Pekinese good time gal.
