Kontroll (2003)
Country: HUN
Technical: col 111m
Director: Nimrod Antal
Cast: Sándor Csányi, Zoltán Mucsi, Eszter Balla
Synopsis:
The despised job of ticket inspector on the Budapest metro attracts the power crazy and the drop-outs; one of the latter spends his nights on the platforms and his days chasing down a fleet-footed fare dodger and a hooded figure who is pushing the unsuspecting onto the tracks.
Review:
A sort of low-tech Subway, all blood and grime, with a hero who stumbles about for much of the film with a cut lip and falls for a pretty girl in a bear costume. The montages of inspectors confronting dubious passengers with requests for 'pass or ticket' speak volumes about contemporary Hungarian social attitudes.
