Kitchen Stories (2003)

(Salmer fra kjøkkenet)

Country: NOR/SV
Technical: col 95m
Director: Bent Hamer
Cast: Joachim Calmeyer, Tomas Norström, Reine Brynolfsson, Bjørn Floberg

Synopsis:

After the war a company of Swedish kitchen manufacturers despatches its troop of 'observers' across the border into Norway to generate data on ergonomics and design by watching domestic kitchen users from an umpire stool in the corner of the room. One of them breaks the taboo of making social contact with his subject.

Review:

An extraordinary premise leads to a subtle comedy of culture clash and corporate satire. Gently paced, it flows to the rhythm of the initial mistrust but growing friendship between dedicated employee and grudging homeowner, bitter because he thought he was getting a real horse, not a model, to compensate him for his trouble.
