Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/2.39:1 206m
Director: Martin Scorsese
Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons

Synopsis:

Returning from military service in Europe, in 1918, a veteran places himself at the disposal of his uncle in return for not having to think too much about what to do with his life. Unfortunately the latter is a smiling villain, ostensibly farming cattle on Oklahoman soil while he waits for the oil-rich Osage Indians to waste away and bequeath him their 'head rights'.

Review:

Scorsese's astonishing reconstruction of a national disgrace, the attempted covert genocide of Native American tribe, which was unlucky enough to be twice relocated before being settled on top of an oil field. Astonishing because for well over three hours it invites us to inhabit the soul of an essentially well-meaning but weak individual, as he performs or acquiesces in a succession of heinous acts. Travis Bickle, Gangs of New York, The Irishman... there's no doubt but that Scorsese is drawn to the black heart of America, and all this lacks is the customary conflagration; instead, it goes out with a whimper.
